1 Energize Your Heart with Coenzyme Q10

CoQ10 plays an essential role in the function of your muscles and major organs. Tissues that use the most energy need the most CoQ10—organs like your brain, your kidneys, and your heart. CoQ10’s most important role may be to provide the high-octane energy output you need for a healthy heart.

Like most American’s, you probably don’t get enough CoQ10 from your diet. The best source of CoQ19 is red meat, especially organ meats like the liver. The problem is eating a lot of organ meat has drawbacks. These meats tend to contain the most toxins and other pollutants. The best way to make sure you’re getting enough CoQ10 is to take a supplement.

There are more than 100 studies showing the heart benefits from CoQ10. I’ve seen CoQ10 work wonders on patients with high blood pressure. A great many of my patients are able to discontinue their high blood pressure medication when they begin supplementing with CoQ10. Clinical studies corroborate what I have seen first hand.

In one study, patients with high blood pressure began taking a CoQ10 supplement. Within one month, the average person’s blood pressure began to improve. At the end of the study 51% of patients were able to discontinue their blood pressure medication.23

CoQ10 is also a good treatment for congestive heart failure. Next time you visit your doctor, request a test for CoQ10 levels. If yours are low begin supplementing with 100mg each day. CoQ10 is soluble in oil form. Buy a soft “gel cap” form rather than a powder. Take it with a meal so your body can absorb it better.

2 Drink Your Way to Optimum Health—Green Tea

Green tea reduces heart disease and the buildup of plaque in arteries, it detoxifies, it scavenges free radicals, and it protects against the formation and growth of cancer. 6 You might call green tea the original anti-aging herb.

2

http://www.AlSearsMD.com Green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). In lab tests, EGCG increased liver cells’ uptake of LDL cholesterol by three times when compared to controls. Overall concentrations of LDL cholesterol fell 28%.7

Another study reveals that green tea encourages your body to metabolize blood sugar better. (The same researchers also found that green tea lowers blood sugar levels in diabetic mice.) 8 Better blood sugar metabolism can reduce insulin resistance, which means that green tea can help prevent diabetes.

Green tea even helps you to maintain an ideal weight. Studies show that overweight people who begin consuming green tea reduce their body weight and body fat and increase their fat oxidation.9

The best way to get the health benefits of green tea is to drink more tea during the day—try to drink at least two cups each day. Brew a pot of tea in the morning when you brew your coffee, so you have it on hand to drink. Avoid the heavily sugared, bottled green teas.

3 Garlic: A Tasty Way to Boost Heart Health

This flavorful little member of the garlic family has health benefits a-plenty, including the ability to lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and support general immune system health. Researchers also believe that garlic can reduce oxidation in your body—a process widely believed to contribute to cancer—and can protect against cognitive decline.4

Numerous studies of garlic prove that it lowers cholesterol levels, but garlic goes one step further in protecting your heart. Your overall cholesterol levels don’t really tell you much about your heart disease risk. Rather, it’s the tendency of cholesterol to form plaque in your arteries that’s the real danger. This danger differs from person to person. Garlic really shines as a health supplement because it reduces the tendency for plaques to form.5

The active ingredient in garlic is allicin. It’s most concentrated in the bulb, which means it’s easy to boost

your garlic intake by using more garlic in the kitchen. Garlic supplements are available, too. You can use garlic in every meal or take a 300 mg supplement every day up to three times a day. Check the table at the end of this report for cautions and interactions.

4 Men, Keep Your Sex Life of the Front Burner with This Wonder-Herb

You hear people joke about a declining sex drive being part of aging. But, really, are you willing to settle for that? You don’t have to.

Your sex drive is linked to healthy free testosterone levels. You can boost these levels by taking a tribulus terrestris supplement. Tribulus terrestris contains protodioscin, which boosts sexual desire and enhances your erections. 10 Depending on where it is grown, tribulus terrestris may not produce protodioscin, so check the label for this active ingredient. When you find a supplement that has the right stuff, take 250 mg of standardized extract each day. See the table at the end of this report for information on drug interactions and other cautions.

5 Women, You’re Entitled to a Great Sex Life, Too

Women, your sex drive is linked to balanced hormones— estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Chasteberry contains vitex, a compound that acts on your pituitary gland helping it to regulate and balance your sex hormones. Though your testosterone levels are naturally lower than a man’s, your testosterone levels play a role in your healthy sex drive. Specifically, large fluctuations in testosterone cause decreased libido, according to research studies. 11 Because chasteberry can regulate your testosterone levels and help to stop them from fluctuating, it may help keep your sex drive on an even keel, too. Take 400mg of a standardized extract daily. Check the table at the end of this report for drug interactions.

3 #6 Your Liver is a Workhorse: Give it the Support it Needs

Your liver is tireless. It works constantly to clean your body’s systems and help you maintain optimum health. But without the right nutrition and proper support, no matter how hard it works, your liver might not be able to keep up the demands you put on it.

Milk thistle, a member of the sunflower family, has a 2000- year history of treating liver ailments. It’s widely used in Europe, but not many doctors in the US take advantage of this wonderful, natural medicine.

Studies how that milk thistle and its active ingredients give the liver the support it needs. Milk thistle helps improve liver function by replenishing its glutathione levels (glutathione neutralizes toxins in the body), by boosting the effectiveness of the liver’s protective membrane, and by encouraging healthy cell growth within the liver.

In one study of patients with hepatitis, milk thistle improved liver function tests after just seven days of supplementation. 12 In another laboratory study, researchers treated dialysis fluid from patients typically deficient in cellular thiols, including glutathione, with a milk thistle extract. The process normalizes thiol and glutathione levels within the fluid. Cellular thiols levels increased more than 2.5 times within four days.13

It’s easy to focus on your heart and brain when it comes to long-term health concerns. You’re liver’s very important, too, so don’t forget to give it the nutrients it needs. To get the most benefit from milk thistle, take 300mg twice a day. Milk thistle doesn’t have any known safety risks, but if you are taking any prescription drugs, it is always a good idea to let your doctor know what supplements you are taking

7 Ease Joint Pain, Protect Cognitive Function (and More) With Boron

Boron is a trace mineral important for optimum health. Many Americans are deficient in their trace mineral intake because farming and ranching practices have depleted minerals from the soil. It is therefore important to consider adding mineral supplements to your diet.

One of the main functions of boron is to reduce joint pain and inflammation by inhibiting the production of inflammatory enzymes. The level of boron in your blood can actually show if you’re at risk for developing arthritis. In regions where people consume between 3 and 10 mg of boron daily, arthritis cases show up in fewer than 10% of the population. In areas where boron consumption is les than 1mg, arthritis can strike 70% of the population.14

Boron doesn’t just ease pain and help prevent arthritis—it’s also good for you bones. It protects your bone’s stores of calcium and magnesium keeping them strong and healthy.15

Boron gives your brain an energy boost, too. Scientists found that people with low boron don’t perform well on cognitive tests when compared to folks with adequate boron levels. People with boron deficiencies scored lower on memory tests, attention span, hand-eye coordination, and overall dexterity.16

Finally, boron reduces a man’s risk of prostate cancer. When researchers looked at the dietary patterns of men with prostate cancer versus those of men without they found that men who included boron rich foods in their diets were 64% less likely to have prostate cancer.17

The best way to increase your boron intake is to eat foods rich in boron. Red grapes, plums, pears, and apples are all good sources. So are avocados, nuts, and legumes. Trail mix with raisins and dried plums is a great way to snack and get more boron. You can also take a boron supplement. If you decide to add a boron supplement, choose one that contains boron citrate and take 750 micrograms each day.

http://www.AlSearsMD.com #8 Combat Cancer and Heart Disease with This Single, Powerhouse Mineral

Selenium is a mineral that keeps your body young, strong and healthy. Like boron, selenium is often depleted from the soil, so you need to be careful that you are getting enough.

Just like vitamins C and E, selenium acts as a powerful antioxidant in your body. In fact, researchers found that all around the world, people with low selenium diets suffered more often from colon, lung, liver, and prostate cancers. 18 Because it acts as an antioxidant in your body it also helps fight the signs of aging.

Selenium may also help to prevent and even treat arthritis. Research shows that arthritis sufferers often have low selenium levels. 19 Selenium also eases existing pain and combats inflammation. 20

For optimum health you need 55 micrograms (mcg) of selenium every day. The best sources of selenium are garlic liver, fish, and nuts (especially Brazil nuts). You can add selenium by taking a supplement. Many multi-vitamin supplements contain selenium, so check labels before you buy a separate supplement. In supplement form, you should take 400 micrograms of seleno-methionine every day.

9 Protect Against Diabetes and Build Muscle with Chromium

Chromium is another mineral you don’t hear too much about, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important. In fact, when it comes to preventing and treating diabetes, chromium is the most important mineral there is. Chromium maintains proper blood sugar by increasing your sensitivity to insulin—it’s like instant protection from diabetes. What’s more, if you already suffer from the disease, chromium supplements can improve glucose tolerance and normalize insulin levels naturally.

On the flip side, people low in chromium suffer from chronically high blood sugar, find themselves packing on the pounds and ultimately can fall victim to diabetes. Deficiency is more common than not. An estimated 90% of all Americans consume less than the recommended amount of chromium each and every day. What’s more, if you exercise regularly you’ll need even larger amounts of chromium than your sedentary neighbors. Active people and athletes excrete more chromium than couch potatoes. 21

Chromium does wonders for your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, too. Studies show supplements can lower cholesterol and triglycerides by nearly 20%. Supplementation can also help you loose weight and build muscle. Chromium controls your appetite, especially cravings for sweets, and people supplementing with it lost 50% more fat over three months. That coupled with chromium’s ability to carry protein where your body needs it most can also help you lose fat while building lean muscle mass.22

Chromium is available in supplements. By far, the safest way to supplement is with chromium-rich yeast. One ounce of brewer’s yeast supplies up to 200 mcg of chromium in an easy-to-absorb form.

10 Hawthorn: A Tonic for Your Heart

Hawthorn is a member of the rose family. It’s been used for centuries as a heart tonic. Evidence suggests that hawthorn helps to strengthen the heart, supports an even heartbeat, and regulates blood pressure.

In one small study, 92 patients with mild high blood pressure saw a significant decrease in their blood pressure over three months of hawthorn supplementation. 1 Hawthorn is unique because it regulates blood pressure based on what your body needs. In addition to this study, which shows hawthorn lowers high blood pressure, other studies show that hawthorn helps to correct low blood pressure, too. Low blood pressure creates different health risks like dizziness after standing. Hawthorn effectively treats this kind of low blood pressure.2

Dr. Sears’ Top 10 Life-Saving Supplements

5 A meta-analysis of studies performed to learn more about hawthorn’s effects on patients with chronic heart failure found that hawthorn provides a consistent benefit. Maximal workload, dyspnea (uncomfortable breathing or breathlessness), and fatigue levels all significantly improved in patients treated with hawthorn in addition to traditional therapies.3

Hawthorn works as a gentle effective heart tonic that is safe. Mild adverse reactions do happen rarely and include nausea. Discomfort from hawthorn use usually passes quickly allowing you to continue the therapy. Nearly anyone with high blood pressure or other risk factors for heart disease will benefit from a hawthorn supplement. Choose standardized capsules and take 240mg each day.

Check the table at the end of this report for information on contraindications or drug interactions.
